Dominion Energy and NextEra Energy expand Virginia merger benefits

Dominion Energy and NextEra Energy have expanded their proposed merger package for Virginia customers, offering increased residential bill relief and economic commitments. The updated proposal extends $10 monthly residential bill credits from two years to four years and redirects some credits previously intended for large-scale data centers to residential users.

Additional commitments in Virginia include $100 million for the EnergyShare bill-assistance program through 2038, $100 million for workforce development, and the creation of approximately 600 new jobs. The companies also plan to spend up to $1 billion annually for five years using Virginia-based contractors and suppliers.

In South Carolina, business leaders are calling for similar benefits. The South Carolina Small Business Chamber of Commerce has suggested that South Carolina ratepayers should seek benefits comparable to the Virginia package. The proposed merger would create a utility entity serving approximately 10 million accounts across Florida, Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. The original proposal included $2.25 billion in shareholder-funded bill credits for customers in Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina over the first two years following the merger.
