Domino Kirke discusses grief and caregiver burnout after miscarriage

Domino Kirke, a professional birth doula and co-founder of Carriage House Birth, shared a personal account of her struggle with grief following a second miscarriage in her second trimester. In a recent Instagram post, Kirke revealed that she attempted to continue working as a caregiver just days after undergoing a D&C procedure, despite still physically recovering.

Kirke described a period of intense workaholism where she felt compelled to act as a ‘superhero’ to avoid facing her own trauma. She noted that this refusal to seek support impacted her health, leading to an autoimmune disease, and strained her relationships with her husband, Penn Badgley, and her children. She admitted that it was not until months later, while teaching a doula training, that she was finally able to process her grief.

Kirke used her experience to advocate for better support systems for caregivers, emphasizing that practitioners need a solid foundation of skills and support to sustain themselves and effectively serve their clients.
