Dompet Dhuafa conducts disaster mitigation programs in Indonesia
Dompet Dhuafa, through its Disaster Management Center (DMC), has launched several initiatives to strengthen community disaster preparedness and mitigation across Indonesia.
In Banten, 68 young people participated in a program at the Kasepuhan Cisungsang indigenous area to study disaster mitigation based on local wisdom. The training focused on traditional practices, such as earthquake-resistant wooden architecture and river conservation, to help participants develop Climate Risk Assessments. The program utilized Social Culture Analysis to help youth understand the links between environmental conditions and potential climate threats.
In East Java, the DMC collaborated with the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) East Java to conduct disaster education and simulations at mosques, schools, and Islamic boarding schools (pesantren). The initiative targeted locations including the MUI East Java office, the Sidoarjo Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), SMP Maryam Surabaya, and the Tebuireng Islamic boarding school in Jombang. The program aims to build a culture of disaster awareness within religious and educational communities to better protect vulnerable groups.
