Don Beyer Secures Democratic Nomination for Virginia’s 8th Congressional District
Incumbent Rep. Don Beyer (D‑VA) won the Democratic primary for the 8th Congressional District with roughly two‑thirds of the vote, far ahead of four challengers including former Alexandria City Council member Mo Seifeldein, veteran Adam Dunigan, former State Department employee Michael Duffin and activist Lorena Bruner. The Associated Press called the race at 7:34 p.m. after polls closed. Beyer, seeking a seventh term, will face Republican nominee Tony Sabio in the November general election.
The district covers Alexandria, Arlington County, the city of Falls Church and parts of Fairfax County. Beyer’s background includes eight years as Virginia’s lieutenant governor, a 1997 gubernatorial run, and service as U.S. ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
