Don Juan meat packing plant faces economic crisis in Argentina

Workers at the Don Juan meat packing plant in Argentina are facing significant uncertainty due to the company's economic difficulties. The Meat Workers Union has demanded the payment of at least one overdue biweekly salary period and is calling for a strategic plan to sustain operations and protect jobs.

Daniel Roa, general secretary of the Meat Workers Union, noted that the facility focuses exclusively on the domestic market rather than exports. He highlighted that the current economic climate is particularly challenging for establishments serving local consumption. The plant's production has dropped to approximately one-third of its previous levels, and its workforce has been significantly reduced from nearly 200 employees.

In addition to falling production, the union cited high production costs in dollars and difficulties in securing raw materials as major obstacles to the plant's stability.
