Donald Duke compares pro-Tinubu opposition to Abacha-era parties
Donald Duke, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party and former governor of Cross River State, has criticized certain opposition parties for supporting President Bola Tinubu’s potential 2027 re-election bid.
During an interview on ARISE News, Duke compared these political alignments to the ‘five leprous fingers’ of the 1990s. This historical term, coined by the late Chief Bola Ige, referred to the five political parties established under the military regime of Sani Abacha that were criticized for attempting to prolong military rule by endorsing Abacha as their sole candidate.
Duke’s comments highlight growing divisions among opposition figures regarding political strategies as realignments occur ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
