Montrose man opts for judge-alone trial in wife's murder case

Donald James Danchella, a Montrose man charged with the first-degree murder of his estranged wife, Lindsay Danchella, has opted for a judge-alone trial in the B.C. Supreme Court.

During an appearance at the Rossland Law Courts on September 9, Danchella re-elected to have his case heard by a judge rather than a jury. Defence counsel also successfully sought an adjournment of the three-week trial, which was originally scheduled to begin on November 9. Danchella is now expected to return to court on September 28 to establish new trial dates.

Lindsay Danchella, a 44-year-old nurse and care co-ordinator in the Trail area, died in the hospital following an alleged attack at a Montrose residence on November 4, 2024. Danchella has remained in custody since his arrest.
