Donald Trump: 2026 World Cup generated $18 billion for U.S. economy

President Donald Trump announced that the 2026 FIFA World Cup generated more than $18 billion for the United States economy and created over 160,000 jobs. In a post on Truth Social, Trump highlighted the tournament as a major driver for travel, tourism, and commercial activity.

The tournament, hosted across the United States, Mexico, and Canada from June 11 to July 19, featured 48 national teams for the first time. Spain secured the championship title after defeating Argentina 1-0 in the final held at MetLife Stadium in New York before a crowd of over 80,000 spectators.

In addition to the tournament's economic impact, Trump noted strong summer tourism trends, stating that Americans traveled approximately 300 billion miles and U.S. national parks received 78 million visitors. Meanwhile, FIFA President Gianni Infantino has indicated that the organization may consider expanding future World Cup editions to include 64 teams.
