Donald Trump addresses potential permanent U.S. military base in Poland
U.S. President Donald Trump has addressed the possibility of establishing a permanent American military base in Poland, stating that the administration is currently analyzing the issue. Trump expressed great respect for Polish President Karol Nawrocki and suggested that a decision might have already been made, though no official confirmation has been released by the White House or the Pentagon.
Poland has been actively seeking a permanent U.S. presence to move beyond the current rotational model. In May 2026, Warsaw submitted an official proposal for the base. The project involves significant logistical and financial preparations, with potential costs estimated between 11 and 17 billion PLN. If implemented, the base could host approximately 5,000 military personnel.
Negotiations between the Polish Ministry of National Defence and the Pentagon are ongoing, with working groups established to finalize infrastructure and funding details. A final determination is expected following a strategic review of U.S. military presence in Europe, with reports due to Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and President Trump later this year.
