Donald Trump addresses suspected Russian outbreak and Putin call

U.S. President Donald Trump addressed reports of a suspected disease outbreak in Russia during a White House press conference. Regarding whether the situation involves a biological weapon, Trump stated, “We don't think so,” though he noted that the full truth would be known soon. He mentioned that Russian authorities have claimed the situation is under control.

The outbreak concerns the Irkutsk region, where Governor Igor Kobzev convened an emergency health commission following reports of a dangerous infection. While social media reports suggested a plague institute employee died of lung plague, Rospotrebnadzor reported that an employee of the Irkutsk Plague Institute was diagnosed with pneumonia of undetermined cause, prompting special measures.

Trump also announced a scheduled phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, noting that the call coincides with Putin's birthday. During the same briefing, Trump discussed U.S. border policies, claiming that 25 million people have entered the country illegally and asserting that no irregular migrants have crossed the border in the last 17 months. Additionally, he argued that he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize due to his efforts in ending various conflicts.
