Donald Trump affirms good relationship with Netanyahu despite Gaza dispute

Donald Trump has stated that his relationship with Benjamin Netanyahu remains ‘very good,’ despite the Israeli Prime Minister rejecting a U.S.-led roadmap for the Gaza Strip.

Netanyahu has expressed reservations regarding a 15-point document that theoretically promotes the second phase of a plan for the Palestinian enclave. The Israeli Prime Minister clarified that the Israeli military will not proceed with any withdrawal from Gaza until Hamas has truly disarmed. While Netanyahu described Trump as ‘the greatest friend (of Israel) in the White House,’ he emphasized that Israel will defend its own positions, noting that while some American ideas are acceptable, others are not.

The relationship between the two leaders previously appeared strained in April during negotiations regarding a ceasefire agreement between the U.S. and Iran, when Trump used harsh language accusing Netanyahu of attempting to undermine Washington’s efforts.
