Donald Trump alleges 2024 assassination attempt was a Democratic plot
President Donald Trump has alleged that the July 2024 assassination attempt against him in Butler, Pennsylvania, was a “Democrat Plot” intended to remove him from the presidential election. Making these claims on Truth Social, Trump asserted that the FBI, under the administration of Joe Biden, failed to properly investigate the incident and that much of the relevant information was “missing, altered, corrupted, or gone” by the time he returned to office in January 2025.
Trump specifically criticized former FBI Director Christopher Wray, stating he should “pay a price” for his handling of the case. However, Trump did not provide specific evidence to support the claim of a political conspiracy.
In contrast, FBI Director Kash Patel testified before a Senate committee that investigators found no evidence of a conspiracy or connections between the shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, and any other individuals or organizations beyond his immediate family. Attorney General Todd Blanche noted that recent information released by the FBI was produced in response to a Senate inquiry but did not substantiate claims of a political plot. Previous investigations concluded that Crooks acted alone during the attack, which resulted in the death of Corey Comperatore and injuries to others.
