Donald Trump announces deal to purchase over one million tons of Russian oil

United States President Donald Trump has announced an agreement to purchase over one million tons of Russian oil, a move intended to lower fuel prices for Americans and the global market. The deal includes an immediate delivery of more than 300,000 tons, followed by 500,000 tons in November, and a final million tons thereafter.

The United Kingdom has responded to the announcement by reaffirming its commitment to maintaining maximum pressure on Russia through its strictest sanctions regime to date. A British government spokesperson emphasized that London will continue to work closely with international partners to ensure Ukraine receives the military and financial support necessary for its defense, aiming to increase the costs of Russian aggression.

Critics note that these large-scale oil purchases could provide a significant financial injection to the Russian economy, which is currently utilizing funds to finance its ongoing war in Ukraine.
