Trump considers US military base in Lithuania

US President Donald Trump has indicated he will consider establishing a permanent American military base in Lithuania, following an offer from the Lithuanian government to cover the associated costs. Lithuanian Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius has expressed readiness to provide the necessary infrastructure and funding to support a permanent US presence. This development comes as Lithuania moves to amend its constitution to remove prohibitions on hosting foreign military bases and deploying nuclear weapons, a move intended to bolster regional deterrence against Russia.

Simultaneously, Trump noted significant progress toward a permanent US Army base in Poland, citing his relationship with Polish President Karol Nawrocki. The Pentagon is currently conducting a six-month review of US military deployments in Europe, which is expected to conclude in December.

In a separate defense development, the US has commenced construction of a $6.6 billion high-tech shipyard in Sparrows Point, Maryland. The project, known as Arsenal-2, is a partnership between the US government and Anduril Industries. It aims to expand the production capacity for Virginia-class nuclear attack submarines and other underwater autonomous systems, representing the largest US shipyard construction project since World War II.
