Donald Trump Announces Construction of Public Golf Course in Washington

Former U.S. President Donald Trump said the Reflecting Pool on the National Mall is now “in full function” after a $14 million renovation and announced that work on a new golf course will begin in September. The project, to be built at the East Potomac Golf Links, is described as one of the world’s largest and will be open to the public, with the potential to host elite tournaments such as the U.S. Open or the Ryder Cup. Trump stated, “We will build one of the biggest golf courses anywhere in the world that will also be accessible to the public.”

The recent pool overhaul cost between $14.2 million and $14.7 million and was marred by algae growth and paint peeling shortly after completion, which Trump blamed on “radical left vandals” and “criminally created algae.” He warned that anyone caught damaging the pool could face prison time. The golf‑course plan includes restoring the overgrown East Potomac site, repairing irrigation, and replacing dead turf.

Trump’s announcement ties the historic landmark’s renovation to a new recreational development meant to boost the capital’s prestige and provide public access to a high‑profile sporting venue.
