Donald Trump announces security upgrades and major Washington D.C. renovations

President Donald Trump has announced the installation of security cameras at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington, D.C., warning that future vandals will face imprisonment. This move follows controversies regarding the pool's recent renovation, which resulted in peeling paint and green water. While previous allegations suggested vandalism caused the damage, Trump noted that the pool has suffered from leaks since its construction in 1922 and acknowledged certain contractor errors.

In a broader effort to renovate Washington, D.C., Trump has also announced plans to close the historic East Potomac golf course for 15 months to undergo redevelopment. This project, along with others such as rebuilding the Kennedy Center and constructing a 76-meter triumphal arch, faces significant legal and political opposition. A federal judge recently ordered a halt to work at East Potomac Park following the removal of hundreds of trees, as conservation groups sue to prevent the site from being converted into a high-end golf course.
