Trump approves firing squad execution for Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan

President Donald Trump has approved the execution of Nidal Malik Hasan, a former U.S. Army major and psychiatrist, via a firing squad. The decision follows a formal recommendation from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, as confirmed by Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell.

Hasan was convicted in 2013 for the 2009 mass shooting at Fort Hood, Texas, which resulted in the deaths of 13 people and left 32 others wounded. During the attack, Hasan reportedly shouted “Allahu Akbar.” He is currently held at the military prison in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

If carried out, this will be the first execution by the U.S. military since 1961. The Secretary of the Army is tasked with determining the specific date and location of the execution. However, the process may face further delays as Hasan retains the right to pursue legal appeals through the federal court system.
