Joaquin Niemann wins LIV Golf New York at Trump National
Joaquin Niemann secured his ninth LIV Golf title with a wire-to-wire victory at the LIV Golf New York event, held at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster in New Jersey. Niemann finished at 16-under par, earning a $4 million prize. Harold Varner III finished second at 13-under, followed by Lee Westwood and Scott Vincent in a tie for third.
The tournament took place amidst significant organizational developments for LIV Golf. Following the Saudi Public Investment Fund’s decision in April to cease funding the tour, CEO Scott O’Neil announced that a new lead investor has been secured to support the league’s next era. During the event, President Donald Trump was seen in the clubhouse alongside PIF Governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan.
Security concerns were noted when two civilian aircraft breached the restricted airspace over the club, prompting NORAD to scramble F-16 fighter jets to intercept them. The aircraft were escorted out without incident. Additionally, media reports raised questions regarding the President's health following his appearance at the outing, noting visible bruising on his arms.
