Donald Trump clashes with CNN reporter over North Korea questions

During an Oval Office event honoring a teenage lifeguard, President Donald Trump engaged in a heated confrontation with CNN White House correspondent Kristen Holmes. The exchange began when Holmes attempted to press the President regarding his recent communications with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and his decision to scale back joint military exercises with South Korea. Trump interrupted Holmes multiple times, telling her to ‘be quiet’ and labeling her a ‘loud, boisterous person’ and a ‘fake reporter’ who delivers ‘fake news.’

Trump defended his decision to reduce military drills, asserting that the move makes the Korean Peninsula ‘much safer’ and noting that Kim Jong-un has treated him with ‘great respect.’ He claimed that communications with the North Korean leader have been ‘very positive,’ though he provided no specific details.

The confrontation also involved political tension following comments by Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff, who accused Trump of prioritizing personal interests—such as building a White House ballroom and traveling with aide Natalie Harp—over his presidential duties. Trump dismissed Ossoff as a ‘Pee-wee Herman look-alike.’

In response to the incident, the White House Rapid Response team issued sharp criticisms of Holmes on X, calling her questions ‘disgusting and inhumane’ and accusing her of using a hero’s event for a ‘cheap shot.’ CNN condemned the attacks, stating they were ‘beneath the office’ and ‘dangerous to press freedom.’
