Donald Trump blocks bipartisan housing bill

Congressional Democrats and Republicans passed a bipartisan bill on Wednesday, the first major effort in more than three decades to lower U.S. housing costs. The legislation was set to become law pending the President's signature.

President Donald Trump cancelled a scheduled Capitol event and refused to sign, stating he would only do so if Congress first passed the SAVE America Act, a measure that would impose new voter‑identification requirements and limit mail‑in ballots and that faces strong Democratic opposition.

Trump also criticised a Senate resolution urging him to end the war with Iran, saying it could impede negotiations with Tehran. His refusal has drawn criticism and highlights continuing friction between the White House and Congress.
