Donald Trump challenges mail-in voting rules ahead of US midterms

As the US midterm elections approach, a legal and political dispute is intensifying over mail-in voting regulations. Donald Trump has sought to alter election rules by claiming that mail-in ballots are a mechanism for fraud, citing unproven scenarios from the 2020 presidential election.

In March, an executive order was signed to implement several restrictions. This order directs state authorities to upload voter data to a federal website and tasks the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Social Security Administration (SSA) with verifying the American citizenship of voters to compile a federal list of those eligible for mail-in voting. Additionally, the United States Postal Service (USPS) has been instructed to refuse the delivery of mail-in ballots to individuals not included on this list. These measures have triggered significant legal challenges regarding the core of American democratic processes.
