Donald Trump claims Canada will fund entire Keystone pipeline project

During a media scrum in Dubuque, Iowa, Donald Trump stated that Canada would pay for the entirety of a revived Keystone pipeline project. He suggested that the United States would provide the route while Canada provides the financing as part of trade negotiations.

There is currently no evidence to support the claim that Canada will fund such a project. While the original Keystone XL pipeline was cancelled in 2021 after its permit was revoked, a new project called the Prairie Connector is being planned. This project, which aims to reuse some Keystone XL infrastructure on the Canadian side, is a joint venture between South Bow, a Canadian energy infrastructure company, and Bridger Pipeline, an American crude oil transportation company. As of now, there are no federal funding commitments for this new pipeline.
