Donald Trump alleges rigging in California primary elections

President Donald Trump accused California Democrats of “rigging” the gubernatorial and Los Angeles mayoral primaries, saying “They’re rigging the election” and claiming the vote‑count delay was under investigation by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles. He linked the issue to his SAVE America Act, which would end no‑excuse mail‑in voting and require proof of citizenship.

State officials responded that the slower tally is typical for California, where tens of millions of mail‑in ballots are verified, signatures checked and late‑postmarked ballots counted for up to a week after Election Day. At the time of reporting about 56% of the governor’s race and 62% of the mayoral race were counted, with Republican Steve Hilton leading the governor’s contest and Spencer Pratt trailing incumbent mayor Karen Bass. No evidence of fraud or misconduct was presented.
