During a campaign rally in South Carolina, Donald Trump claimed that hospitals are performing “reverse surgery” on transgender individuals at his order. Speaking at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center in support of Republican Senate candidate Darline Graham, Trump stated, “In fact, hospitals now are doing reverse surgery at my order. They’re doing reverse surgery. Nobody ever heard about it.”

There is no public record, executive order, or announcement from the Department of Health and Human Services or the American Medical Association to support these claims. Medical experts note that there is no standard medical procedure known as “reverse surgery” performed in batches, and gender-affirming care typically involves therapy, hormones, or surgery, which are not easily undone.

Adrian Shanker, a former official in the Biden administration’s Department of Health and Human Services, criticized the remarks, suggesting that medical decisions should remain between patients and their providers rather than being influenced by politicians.
