Donald Trump claims Kim Jong Un responded to dialogue requests

US President Donald Trump stated that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has responded to his requests for dialogue, describing the progress as “very positive.” While Trump did not disclose specific details of the communication, he emphasized his personal relationship with Kim as a factor in reducing regional tensions.

In a separate development, Trump criticized the South Korean government for refusing to assist the United States in military operations related to Iran. He expressed dissatisfaction with Seoul's stance, noting that US troops are stationed in South Korea to protect the country from North Korean threats, making South Korea's lack of cooperation in the Middle East “strange.”

Following these tensions, Trump ordered a significant reduction in the scale of joint US-South Korea military exercises. Despite this, South Korean officials stated they are maintaining close coordination with the US to ensure a solid defense posture. The routine Ulchi Freedom Shield (UFS) exercises, involving approximately 18,000 South Korean troops, are currently underway.
