Donald Trump claims personal friendship with Kim Jong-un
Donald Trump has reaffirmed his personal relationship with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, claiming to be “practically the only person in the world” whom Kim likes. Speaking outside the White House, Trump noted that while Kim possesses an extensive nuclear arsenal, he believes Kim will be “fine” as long as he remains in office due to their mutual respect.
Trump attributed the development of North Korea's nuclear capabilities to previous U.S. administrations, stating that the situation could have been avoided if past presidents had taken different actions. He contrasted his approach to North Korea with his stance on Iran, maintaining that Iran must not be allowed to possess nuclear weapons.
Despite Trump's expressed openness to resuming diplomatic meetings following the stalled 2019 Hanoi summit, North Korean leadership has not yet responded to specific offers for dialogue. Kim Yo Jong, the sister of Kim Jong-un, has previously described denuclearization demands as “unrealistic,” though she noted that her brother holds “good memories and feelings” toward Trump.
