Trump claims control of Strait of Hormuz and threatens Oman FAST-MOVING

President Donald Trump has escalated tensions in the Middle East by claiming the United States is nearing full control of the Strait of Hormuz. During a telephone interview, Trump asserted that the U.S. has ‘swept away’ Iran, noting that while Tehran possesses missiles and drones, its production capacity is limited.

Trump has also made provocative territorial claims, designating the Strait of Hormuz and coastal areas of Oman, the UAE, and Iran as ‘new US territory’ on a map. Furthermore, he issued a direct threat to bomb Oman, a long-standing U.S. ally, if it interferes with American interests or continues its role as a regional mediator. In response to the ongoing conflict, Trump declared an ‘economic D-Day’ against Iran, a move supported by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who warned of the ‘harshest sanctions in history.’

While Trump maintains that the Strait is ‘open and in operation’ with all sea mines removed, Iranian officials have rejected these claims. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kasem Gharibabadi stated that the waterway cannot be seized via ‘tweet, aircraft carrier, order, or campaign speech.’

Market data indicates shifting maritime patterns; analysts report that over 80% of crude oil passing through the Strait in the last two weeks utilized the Omani route, suggesting Iran is losing significant control over the waterway. This shift comes as oil prices have seen recent increases, with Brent crude rising 2.5% to $93.9 per barrel.
