Donald Trump claims 250% tariff threat ended India-Pakistan conflict

US President Donald Trump has reiterated his claim that he successfully averted a military confrontation between India and Pakistan by threatening both nuclear-armed nations with 250% trade tariffs. Speaking at a campaign rally in Florida, Trump asserted that his ultimatum—warning both countries they would lose access to US trade—forced their leadership to cease hostilities.

Trump also claimed that 11 aircraft were shot down during the conflict and expressed frustration at not receiving the Nobel Peace Prize, stating, “I’ve settled eight wars. Did I get the Nobel Prize? No.”

India has consistently rejected these claims of external mediation. New Delhi maintains that the ceasefire during ‘Operation Sindoor’—an Indian military response to a terrorist attack in Pahalgam—was achieved through direct communication between the Pakistani Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) and his Indian counterpart. India also disputes Trump’s assertion regarding the number of aircraft lost during the engagement.
