Donald Trump claims peace in Ukraine is closer than ever

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that a resolution to the Russia-Ukraine war is closer than ever following discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump noted that the administration is intensifying contacts with Moscow to end the conflict.

In a related development, Russia has agreed to release American citizen Stephen Hubbard, a retired teacher and former soldier who had been detained in Russia. Trump confirmed that Hubbard is returning to the U.S. alongside Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, noting that no concessions were made to Russia for his release.

Diplomatic efforts are advancing, with Russia expressing readiness to resume trilateral negotiations involving the U.S. and Ukraine, potentially in mid-November. While Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy supports the proposal for negotiator-level talks, he warned that any peace process must not result in the strengthening of Putin through the removal of sanctions.

Simultaneously, military tensions remain high. Following diplomatic meetings, both sides reported significant strikes; Russia claimed to have intercepted approximately 630 drones targeting Moscow, while Russian missile strikes on Kyiv caused casualties and damaged infrastructure.
