Trump defends White House renovations, calling previous condition a ‘dump’

President Donald Trump has defended ongoing renovations at the White House, describing the historic residence as a ‘dump’ in a state of serious disrepair prior to his administration’s intervention. In posts on Truth Social, Trump claimed that previous presidents neglected the building and that its exterior ‘skin’ was practically falling off. He stated that the structure is now in better condition than when it was originally built in 1792.

The renovation projects include significant structural and aesthetic changes, such as the addition of gold ornamentation in the Oval Office and Cabinet Room, the installation of an 88-foot flagpole, and the creation of a helipad on the South Lawn. A major point of contention is the demolition of the East Wing to facilitate the construction of a 90,000-square-foot ballroom. While the project has faced legal challenges from preservationists, the Supreme Court recently cleared the way for construction to proceed.

Trump has asserted that the ballroom, estimated to cost between $400 million and $600 million, will be funded by himself and private donors rather than taxpayers, describing it as a ‘gift to the United States of America.’
