Donald Trump criticizes Alina Habba Mildon over $50 million contract
President Donald Trump has publicly criticized his former personal attorney, Alina Habba Mildon, regarding a reported $50 million contract she signed with the family of Venezuelan banker Julio Herrera Velutini. Speaking at his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida, Trump described the arrangement as “obnoxious,” “outrageous,” and “not acceptable.”
According to reports, the four-year agreement with Concord Partners, a company owned by Herrera Velutini’s family, includes an annual salary of $10 million plus bonuses. The contract was reportedly signed in October 2025 while Habba Mildon was serving as the acting US attorney for New Jersey. She later transitioned to a role as a senior adviser to the attorney general before reportedly beginning work for Concord Partners on January 1, 2026.
The timing of the deal has drawn scrutiny because Trump granted a presidential pardon to Herrera Velutini on January 15, 2026. Herrera Velutini had previously faced federal bribery charges involving former Puerto Rico Governor Wanda Vazquez Garced before reaching a plea deal in August 2025. Habba Mildon has denied any connection between her employment and the securing of the pardon, stating that her work has been vetted and disclosed to the Department of Justice.
