Donald Trump criticizes Luka Doncic trade to Lakers

During a Republican convention in Dallas, Donald Trump criticized the NBA trade that sent Luka Doncic from the Dallas Mavericks to the Los Angeles Lakers. Trump stated that he does not understand the deal and suggested it might go down in history as one of the worst trades in sports history.

The trade, which occurred in early 2025, saw the Slovenian star move to Los Angeles in exchange for Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and a 2029 first-round draft pick. Trump compared the transaction to the 1919 trade of Babe Ruth from the Boston Red Sox to the New York Yankees, noting that while Ruth’s move remains a legendary error, the Doncic deal is also highly questionable.

Reports indicate that the Mavericks' decision to move the franchise cornerstone has caused significant division among fans and analysts. Trump jokingly suggested that the deal could be redone, remarking that he redoes deals all the time.
