Donald Trump defends family's multibillion-dollar crypto earnings amid conflict claims

U.S. President Donald Trump told CNBC that the cryptocurrency investments of his family generate no illegal activity and that there is no conflict of interest. A recently disclosed filing shows Trump’s family earned at least $1.4 billion from crypto last year, the highest among U.S. officials. Roughly $636 million came from a memecoin launched shortly before Trump’s return to office, about $594 million from World Liberty Financial – a crypto firm he founded with his sons – and $197 million from a stablecoin project.

Trump said he does not manage the day‑to‑day operations of these holdings, which are overseen by his sons, especially Eric Trump, and that he may not have been aware of every detail. He also highlighted the administration’s crypto‑friendly regulatory stance, noting efforts to simplify approvals and boost the U.S. digital‑asset market. Critics, however, argue that policy decisions could influence the value of his private crypto assets and call for stricter ethics oversight.
