Donald Trump demands European reimbursement for Ukraine military aid

Donald Trump has announced his intention to demand that European nations reimburse the United States for military aid provided to Ukraine under the Joe Biden administration. In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that hundreds of billions of dollars were given to Ukraine and NATO for free, asserting that Europe would have paid if asked, but that the U.S. will now seek repayment, albeit with a delay.

Trump did not specify which European countries would be held responsible for these reimbursements. The U.S. Department of State has previously noted that Washington has provided approximately $66.9 billion in military aid since the full-scale Russian invasion in February 2022, and roughly $69.7 billion since the initial invasion in 2014.

Additionally, Trump addressed reports regarding potential shortages of U.S. munitions due to conflicts in the Middle East. He denied these claims, stating that the U.S. possesses “practically unlimited quantities of medium-to-high quality ammunition” and that production has reached unprecedented levels. This stance contrasts with comments made in August when he declined requests for additional Patriot air defense systems, citing exhausted stocks.
