Eli Lilly plans European launch of obesity pill, U.S. MFN pricing may shape rollout
Eli Lilly expects to introduce its obesity medication Orforglipron (marketed in the United States as Foundayo) in Europe and Britain in the second half of 2026 or early 2027. The company will target the out‑of‑pocket telehealth market while also pursuing public reimbursement where possible. Lilly’s strategy is influenced by the Trump administration’s “most‑favoured‑nation” (MFN) pricing policy, which links U.S. drug prices to those in other countries; Lilly signed an MFN agreement last year.
In the United States, the FDA approved Foundayo on April 1, 2026, with commercial pricing from $25 to $149 per month. European pricing discussions will consider national health‑system reimbursement, with France becoming the first EU country to reimburse anti‑obesity drugs for severely obese patients from mid‑June 2026 and NICE planning to assess Orforglipron by November 18, 2026.
A phase‑3 TRIUMPH‑1 trial of the same drug showed an average weight loss of 28.3 % (up to 31.9 kg) after 80 weeks, results comparable to bariatric surgery, and improvements in cardiometabolic markers. Adverse events were mainly gastrointestinal, and about 11 % of participants discontinued treatment.
