Donald Trump discloses SpaceX debt and Meta stock purchases

Financial disclosures reveal that President Donald Trump conducted 517 securities transactions in August, with total buy and sell values estimated between $74.3 million and $273.3 million. Notable transactions include a purchase of Meta Platforms shares valued between $5 million and $25 million and an investment of up to $5 million in SpaceX senior unsecured notes. The SpaceX debt purchase occurred on August 18, just two days before Trump signed a national space transportation policy aimed at expanding commercial space activity and increasing annual launches to over 1,000 by 2030.

Other significant August investments included shares in Microsoft, Oracle, AT&T, ConocoPhillips, Abbott Laboratories, Netflix, and Chevron, each valued between $1 million and $5 million. The disclosures have raised questions regarding potential conflicts of interest, as SpaceX is a major federal contractor for NASA and the Pentagon.

A White House spokesperson stated that the president’s portfolio is independently managed by third-party financial institutions through discretionary accounts and computer-based model portfolios, asserting that Trump has no ability to direct or influence specific investment decisions.
