Donald Trump faces criticism over election payout promises

Journalist Ivica Puljić has criticized Donald Trump’s recent campaign promises, specifically the pledge to provide Americans with $5,000 if Republicans maintain control of Congress following the November midterm elections.

Puljić warned that such a proposal could face severe legal and financial hurdles. He noted that US regulations prohibit offering money in exchange for votes in federal elections, characterizing the move as an attempt to “buy votes” on a global stage. Furthermore, Puljić highlighted the immense fiscal burden, noting that estimates suggest such measures could require approximately $1.2 trillion, placing significant pressure on US public finances.

In addition to the current controversy, Puljić referenced several previous unfulfilled promises made by Trump, including the claim that Mexico would pay for the border wall and various pledges regarding healthcare, food prices, and fuel costs.
