Donald Trump faces plunging approval and party setbacks

Recent polls show U.S. President Donald Trump’s approval rating has dropped to roughly 32‑34 percent, with only about 39 percent approving his immigration policy. The decline follows criticism of his handling of the conflict with Iran and rising gasoline prices.

Within his own party, Trump is confronting setbacks. Federal interim prosecutor Jeanine Pirro, a longtime ally, asked to withdraw felony charges against former Olympian David Hearn for alleged damage to the Reflecting Pool near the Washington Monument. The president also faces doubts over his potential leadership of the Justice Department and a failed effort to renovate a Washington monument, adding to internal tensions as the 2026 midterm elections approach.
