Donald Trump hits record 65% disapproval in new CNN poll

A CNN/SSRS poll conducted April 30‑May 4 shows President Donald Trump’s overall disapproval rating at 65%, the highest recorded across both of his non‑consecutive terms. His approval stands at 35% and his net rating is –22, matching the lowest three‑week average recorded for former President Joe Biden. The poll also indicates a historic low for Trump’s economic approval, with only 30% approving and 70% disapproving his handling of the economy.

CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten highlighted that despite Trump’s declining numbers, Democrats are not translating the sentiment into a larger advantage. The same survey found 77% of Americans blame Trump for rising living‑costs, yet the Democratic congressional lead has narrowed from +6 points in March to +3 points. Enten warned that the gap between the parties remains a “dead‑heat,” suggesting that Republican prospects in the upcoming midterms remain viable despite the president’s unpopularity.
