Jaden J. Read arrested for threatening President Trump in Kansas

Jaden J. Read, a 24-year-old man from Clearwater, Kansas, has been arrested and federally charged with making threats against President Donald Trump. The investigation was initiated following a Crime Stoppers tip on October 15 regarding social media comments posted on Facebook beneath news articles from KAKE News and KWCH 12.

Prosecutors allege that Read posted multiple messages inciting violence, including statements such as “Let’s shoot Trump honestly” and “Can we shoot him in Kansas please I will myself.” In one instance, Read allegedly claimed to have obtained a .308 firearm and ammunition, and stated he had “mapped out roofs around” the location where the President’s speech was scheduled to occur.

Read was taken into federal custody on October 17, two days before a scheduled campaign rally in the Wichita area. U.S. Attorney Ryan Kriegshauser emphasized that while the First Amendment protects robust political disagreement, “political violence and threats of political violence will not be tolerated.” The federal charge for threatening the president carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison. Read remains in custody pending a detention hearing.
