Donald Trump hosts White House roundtable on cybercrime crackdown

President Donald Trump convened a White House roundtable on Wednesday to address the threat of foreign cybercrime and online scams. During the event, Trump stated that federal authorities have prevented at least $1.6 billion in losses this year following a March executive order.

Administration officials reported that law enforcement has frozen nearly $1 billion in cybercurrency linked to foreign scammers, shut down over 500 fraudulent websites, and worked with technology companies to disrupt millions of online accounts used by criminals. The discussions highlighted the impact of impersonation schemes, ransomware, and digital extortion on American citizens, particularly seniors.

While the President and officials used terms like ‘cybercurrency’ to describe the assets involved, the FBI reported that Americans lost $11 billion in 2025 specifically related to digital assets, including cryptocurrency. The roundtable included several senior officials, such as Attorney General Todd Blanche and Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin.
