Trump immigration approval drops to 39% while Republicans stay supportive
A new AP‑NORC poll finds that only 39 % of U.S. adults approve of President Donald Trump’s handling of immigration, down from 49 % at the start of his second term. About eight in ten Republicans continue to back his immigration approach, a level that remains higher than their support for his economic or Iran policies.
Roughly half of all adults say Trump has gone too far on deportations and on restricting legal immigration, with 47 % believing he has exceeded his authority on deportations. Republican voters are less likely than other groups to view his actions as overreach. Overall presidential approval remains low, hovering around 32‑34 % in recent surveys.
The poll’s findings echo other recent surveys, including CNN and Reuters/Ipsos polls, which also show a historic low in Trump’s overall approval and persistent partisan divides on immigration policy.
