Donald Trump pharmaceutical investments face scrutiny amid Medicare exemption claims

Congressional Democrats have released a report alleging that President Donald Trump significantly increased his investments in pharmaceutical companies following his return to the White House. According to the report from the Joint Economic Committee’s minority arm, Trump’s pharmaceutical stock holdings rose from a reported $1.7 million in 2024 to as much as $56.2 million by the end of 2025.

The report claims that up to $39.1 million of these holdings were in companies that benefited from exemptions to Medicare’s drug price negotiation program, a provision included in the Republican-backed 2025 tax and spending law. Analysis suggests Trump’s portfolio purchased up to $2.55 million in such shares on three separate dates before he signed the legislation in July 2025, including $950,000 on the day the Senate passed the bill. Additionally, the portfolio reportedly acquired $1 million in AbbVie stock in August 2025 after the law took effect.

The White House has denied any ethics violations, characterizing the findings as attempts by Democrats to fabricate conflicts of interest.

Separately, during a campaign event in Kentucky, Trump promised that if Republicans maintain control of Congress, the Department of Defense will invest $100 million in the pharmaceutical company Antheia to revitalize a manufacturing facility in Winchester, Kentucky.
