Trump discloses SpaceX stock purchase following record IPO

Financial disclosures reveal that US President Donald Trump purchased between $15,001 and $50,000 in SpaceX shares on June 23. This transaction occurred less than two weeks after SpaceX’s record-breaking initial public offering on June 12, which valued the company at approximately $1.77 trillion.

The investment has raised questions regarding potential conflicts of interest, as SpaceX is a major US government and military contractor. The Trump administration has recently taken policy actions that could benefit the company, including a directive to significantly increase the number of annual US commercial space launches and reentries to over 1,000 by 2030.

The White House has responded to concerns by stating that the President’s investment portfolio is managed independently by third-party financial institutions. Spokesperson Davis Ingle noted that these managers follow recognized indexes, such as the Schwab 1000, and that neither the President nor his family has the ability to direct or influence specific investment decisions.

Reports also indicate that Small Business Administration (SBA) leader Kelly Loeffler earned millions of dollars from the SpaceX IPO. Additionally, some analysts note that because SpaceX shares have fluctuated significantly from their post-IPO highs, the value of the President’s stake may currently be lower than the purchase price.
