Donald Trump Jr. faces calls for Senate investigation over wedding funding
Republican Senator John Curtis has called on the Senate Judiciary Committee to investigate Donald Trump Jr. regarding the financing of his wedding to Bettina Anderson. The investigation request follows reports alleging that the luxury ceremony, held in the Bahamas, was partially funded by Russian oligarch Umar Kremlev, a close ally of Vladimir Putin.
According to reports, Kremlev reportedly covered significant expenses, including the rental of a private island, guest accommodations, and a fireworks display. The total value of these provisions is estimated to be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. Senator Curtis requested that Trump Jr. be subpoenaed to testify regarding his business activities, foreign connections, and received gifts, arguing that the level of privilege and potential corruption warrants scrutiny.
Other Republican senators, including Thom Tillis of North Carolina and John Cornyn of Texas, have expressed support for an investigation or criticized the situation as a matter of bad judgment. Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska noted that such oversight should apply equally to both the Trump and Biden families.
