Donald Trump Jr. links Latin American electoral shifts to USAID dismantling
Donald Trump Jr. has claimed that the dismantling of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has coincided with a shift in the political landscape of Latin America. In a social media post, he asserted that since the agency was gutted, the political left has not won a single presidential election in the region.
Trump Jr. accompanied his statement with a map highlighting right-wing electoral victories since April 2025. He alleged that billions of dollars in taxpayer money were previously channeled toward NGOs, democracy promotion programs, and activist networks that he characterized as “election interference” because they allegedly supported specific political sectors.
Elon Musk supported these claims by sharing content suggesting USAID has intervened in elections and regime changes. While Trump Jr. presented the electoral shifts as a direct consequence of reducing USAID's influence, the posts did not provide empirical evidence establishing a causal link between the agency's budget cuts and the specific election results.
