Donald Trump labels US-Canada dollar imbalance ‘unacceptable’

Donald Trump has characterized the dollar imbalance between the United States and Canada as ‘unacceptable,’ stating that the current situation ‘will not continue.’ In a post on Truth Social, he argued that these structural trade imbalances have existed for years and used the rhetoric to justify unilateral interventions.

The trade dispute between Washington and Ottawa has escalated from negotiations to the implementation of tariffs. Following the failure to reach a trade agreement, the United States imposed tariffs on Canadian goods, a move accompanied by the symbolic renaming of Lake Ontario to ‘Lake America.’

In response, the Canadian government has implemented retaliatory measures on approximately $20 billion worth of American products. These Canadian tariffs target a wide range of goods, signaling Ottawa's intent to use economic pressure in response to American escalations.
