Donald Trump largely absent from Republican midterm TV ads
A CNN analysis of AdImpact data reveals that Donald Trump is largely absent from Republican television advertising during the midterm election cycle. Between September 1 and September 15, Republican advertisers aired only 12 TV spots mentioning Trump, costing approximately $1 million. This represents a small fraction of the more than $160 million spent on over 500 Republican ads during the same period.
This trend contrasts with Trump’s public requests to be a central figure in the election. Republican strategists suggest that the party is focusing on defining Democratic candidates rather than promoting the president, whose national approval rating stands at 36% according to CNN’s Poll of Polls. While Republicans have limited Trump's presence in their messaging, Democrats have been more frequent in invoking his name in their advertisements.
