Donald Trump loses European right‑wing support over Iran war stance

Donald Trump’s close ties to Europe’s right‑wing populist parties have become a political liability. European leaders fear that association with Trump could alienate voters and damage economic credibility, especially after his recent threats of new tariffs on European goods, support for military actions against Iran, and comments about Greenland. At the G7 summit in Évian, France, leaders including Emmanuel Macron were photographed with Trump, while German politician Friedrich Merz called for greater EU independence from the United States. Public polling shows growing perception of Trump as a threat to Europe.

In the United States, former ally and media figure Tucker Carlson warned that Trump’s backing of a war against Iran could end his political dominance, marking a rare internal revolt among Trump’s supporters. Carlson, once a staunch defender of the former president, called the stance “the end of Trump” in a Sky News interview. Dissent is also evident in demonstrations in Berlin and statements from other right‑wing politicians distancing themselves from Trump’s policies.
