Donald Trump loses traditional GOP leads in economy and security

Recent polling indicates that Donald Trump has significantly eroded traditional Republican advantages in the areas of national security and the economy. Historically, the GOP has maintained a substantial lead in these categories, but current data shows the gap closing or even reversing.

Regarding national security, a Reuters-Ipsos poll shows Democrats and Republicans nearly tied on issues of foreign conflict and terrorism, with 37% of adults favoring the Democratic approach compared to 36% for the GOP. Similarly, a Fox News poll placed the Republican preference for national security at 50% and Democrats at 48%, a notable decrease from the 12-point GOP lead seen in January.

In the economic sector, the shift is even more pronounced. A recent Fox News poll shows Democrats leading by nine points, with 54% favoring their approach over the 45% for Republicans. This represents the largest Democratic advantage in this area since 2006.
